St Clément church (continued)

Lest we forget: two memorials to the dead.

One is located within the church, sealed in the north wall. A carving of a French soldier from World War 1 is framed by two French flags. Those men from the village who died in the war have their names engraved below. The first World War was particularly tragic for the village, which lost 19 men, while the second World War took a toll of 3 men.

The new memorial to the dead replaces that of the town hall and is found to the left of the bell tower. It also pays homage to the children of Pietracorbara who "died for their country".

The new external monument.   The old monument, inside the church.
In the name of God, good and all powerful. Here lies Marguerite Massei, wife of François d'Orneto, deceased August 2, 1792. Her daughter Cordia has built this monument in her fond memory.
This marble plaque, sealed in the north wall inside the church appears to be of the same era as the building, which was built in 1755.
