The maquis (continued)
No self-respecting maquis is complete without rosemary - u rosumarinu - an aromatic plant which flowers several times a year and whose blue flowers go so well with the sky and the sea.
Broom - a ghjinestra.
Myrtle - a morta or mortula, with its white flowers and blue-black fruits are both extremely good for the digestion, as well as pleasing to the eye.
Finally, the arbutus - l'albitru - or so-called strawberry tree bears both flowers (white bells) and fruits (red, tasteless, grainy balls) in December. If the fruit is inedible and contains Oxalic acid, which can incite madness, it can still be used to make an excellent eau de vie or fruit spirit. Consume with moderation!
