Ornetu's
two towers ...
These
square towers dating from the 15th century were used to defend
the population from Berber attacks. Even today, the village
houses are built in hive-like formation around the central tower
which is now private property and which was restored in 1964.
In the 19th century, the hamlet contained a working population
of ten weavers, nine oil extractors and twelve ovens. These
days, the population is mainly composed of retirees.
The photograph of the hamlet on the left was taken in 1975,
and very little has changed since. Both towers are easily
visible,

of the tower was a piggery. It was destroyed during the general
renovation of the tower in 1963.
as is the large building with the three slope roof. This building
served as the barracks for the infantry - Corsican police
dedicated to fighting robbery during the first half of the
19th century.
