| Pietracorbara in the year 2010? With its 539 permanent residents, the village is no longer in the red regarding demographics. A new balance now exists between the population of the plain (49% of the whole population) and that of the village itself (51%).
Some services are functional but others are still at the planning stage: the water treatment plant project of the plain has been launched, and the water issue is not completely solved. The electricity network is going to be strengthened, while the telephone network has been secured (ADSL in the village). The future of the school is no longer uncertain with its 32 students (November 2009). A new school project is being discussed. Other points remain unclear. Environmental defense could be improved: car wrecks are left abandoned, wood cutting must be implemented more effectively and more carefully, paths are opened without athorization, and most of all, stray cattle is a curse for the village. The rural habitat should be restored and maintained more efficiently, and the coastline better defended against ill-conceived concrete constructions and their partisans. A town planning document should come into being in 2010 but its publication was postponed several times.
As a matter of fact, the future of Pietracorbara lies in finding the correct balance between its role as dormitory town and a valley suburb of Bastia, and of course its tourist functions which, while necessary, must be carefully defined and managed. Right now, tourist development is mainly "blue", that is, related to the beach, the sea and nautical activities. One way of broadening tourism while benefiting the valley would be to add a little green to the blue, by offering other activities, thereby proffering another view of the valley. Such development, while helping Pietracorbara to grow in terms of tourism, would also allow visitors better access to a land overflowing with history and to its residents.
