| Petra
Viva means "living stone". Petra Viva is an association
working to defend and promote the Pietracorbara valley, its heritage
and the environment.
Created during the
summer of 1976, the association was one of the first to remind
residents that the environment was a heritage worth preserving
and sharing. Petra Viva's work has paid off. In just a few
years, the association has:
opened kilometers of trails.
encouraged and financed the cleanup of the maquis between two
hamlets.
started treatment for chestnut trees suffering from bark disease.
cleaned Pietracorbara's beach and forbidden access to vehicles
on the beach.
rebuilt two historic Genoese bridges.
helped renovate the old confraternity building, now used as a
community hall.
renovated an old house which has since been transformed into the
association's headquarters.
opened a library for the general public.
welcomed artists and musicians, including Corsican singers.
organized exhibitions of photographs, paintings and sculptures.
created a newsletter, introductory brochures and post cards of
the valley.
